LOWER HOUSE OF INDIAN PARLIAMENT PASSES ESSENTIAL DEFENCE SERVICES BILL

  1. The Essential Defence Services Bill, 2021, has been passed by the Indian Lok Sabha with an aim to replace the Ordinance promulgated in June 2021 and allows the Central Government to prohibits strikes, lock- outs and lay- offs in the units engaged in essential defence services.
  2. Essential Defence Services Bill, 2021, was introduced in Lok Sabha by the Minister of Defence Mr. Rajnath Singh on July 22, 2021.
  3. According to this Bill, if any prohibition order is passed by the Government that will remain in force for six months and this period may be extended by another six months.
