APEX COURT OF INDIA ISSUES NOTICE TO VARIOUS AUTHORITIES FOR USING THE REPEALED SECTION

  1. Supreme Court of India has issued notice to all the States, Union Territories and Registrar General of High Courts for filing F.I.Rs and registering cases under Section 66A of Information Technology Act, 2000.
  2. People’s Union for Civil Liberties, a human rights body, raised a plea in the Supreme Court that section 66A of Information Technology Act, 2000, is still in use and State authorities are registering cases under Section 66A under the impression that it is still remained on the Statute books.
  3. Section 66A of Information Technology Act, 2000, was repealed by Supreme Court of India in a case of Shreya Singhal v. UOI.
